Customer Reviews:
This band deserves a better compilation.......2002-04-25
The Beautiful South are one of my favorite bands. Everyone knows that. Their first "Greatest Hits" was released in the mid-nineties and was a great introduction to people who'd never heard or bought their music. Several years pass and there's a new "Greatest Hits." Fine. But why all the double dipping? There's several songs here that are on the first set. And many songs that should be on there are ignored ("Closer Than Most" is an example that comes to mind. It *was* a "hit," wasn't it?). Also, several of these songs are the "edited" versions. You get "Don't Marry Her" with the "have me" line in the chorus as opposed to the original, "offensive" one. Also, the shortened "single" version of "Song For Whoever" is here instead of the glorious uncut version. The one all-new song, "The Root of All Evil" isn't that good, IMHO (although the new remix of "The Mediterranean" is nice).
So, to sum up: a nice collection of songs, but hardly the best way to go about doscovering this fine band. Get the first collection if you must ("Carry On Up The Charts"), but avoid this...album.
TBS' Solid Bronze is "Solid Gold", par excellence.......2002-01-27
TBS' music is pure, sheer 'luv'. It is classic music, for all time... One does not get tired of them! Unfortunately, and amazingly, they are not that well known in the States, unlike that in the UK.
Recently, by stroke of luck, I happened to run into the Solid Bronze in a Tokyo HMV. Today I'm "hooked on" TBS' music in total sense. I am now hunting for all their CD's...
After all, I think, TBS is finally coming to America. Everybody will jump on the bandwagon. Go ahead, get Solid Bronze (Solid GOLD, really). You won't be wasting your money. You will be listening to it years from now, still liking it like the first day... Go, convert. It's sheer love.
