4 out of 5 stars Excellent Single from one of 2003's Best Albums.......2003-09-05

"Save it for a Rainy Day" is the (close to) title track of the Jayhawks' latest, and delightful, album, "Rainy Day Music". The song is an absolute gem, with a nice blend of folk, grass and country, one of the standout tracks on the album.

This single comes in a radio-edit, which is nearly identical to the album track, as well as a nice live version and interestingly, a demo version, with just Gary Louris on guitar. The last track of the single is a live version of "Tailspin", also a great track from the "Rainy Day" album.

In all, this is a great single, even for those that have the "Rainy Day" album. Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars You just have to hear it.......2003-07-25

I don't watch TV so Jayhawks meant absolutely nothing to me until three weeks ago.

Heard them on NPR and instantly liked the melodic harmonies and melancholic yet optimistic sound. Reminded me of Simon and Garfunkel, but with somewhat better works on the guitars. Other similarities include Tom Petty and sometimes Traveling Wilburies, but JH are definitely with a style of their own not to be confused with any of the above.

Anyway, found them on the net and heard the whole CD from their own site; the first 5 songs are nothing short of masterpieces you HAVE to hear if you're even a bit romantic, melancholic, dreamer, sad or simply into good music.

After hearing it about 100 times from their site I found all songs on the file sharing networks and got them.

But boy, believe it or not, on the next day I went on and bought the CD from the store for a simple respect for those folks. They do deserve it.

Jayhawks may never achieve the stardom status of, say, Britney Spears or Eminem, but I'll tell you this: I wouldn't trade this one CD for all hits Britney has ever had (not so sure about Eminem).

What was I saying...ah, yes: you just have to hear it.

If you have an ear for music and melody there's no way you wouldn't like it.
