Miles to Go [Explicit Lyrics]
Editorial Reviews
About the Artist
Despite speaking four languages, when asked to describe her music, 22-year-old, Alex Bach is at a loss for words. She says simply, It is pop with an attitude. After hearing her music, though, you can understand why it is so hard to define. Labeling it as pop, belies the insightful, cutting lyrics that are so characteristic of her songwriting. It underestimates her graceful melodies that will transcend the ever-changing trends of the music industry. Nor does it do justice to rhythms that have been undeniably influenced by her international background. Alex Bach comes by her international flair quite naturally, in fact, genetically. Her father is from French Tunisia and her mother is American. Alex was born in France, raised there and then later in Abu Dhabi, Germany, and finally, the U.S. She grew up speaking French and Arabic, and in quick succession, picked up English, German and then Spanish. While Alex may be heard singing in any language, her emotional and evocative songs speak of life in its most personal and honest form. "I love to write lyrics that shake people up and force them to re-examine their lives. The ability to write music and sing it in a way that touches people is an awesome power. This power can be used to influence people in a positive manner. If I can get just one person to take an honest look at themselves and realize that they are not where they intended to be, then I will feel like I have used my powers of music wisely."

Late to the party, but still groovin'!.......2004-06-10
What can be said about Mr. Williams that the back of the CD doesn't already address?
"Seductively hypnotic with a perfect blend of mellow instrumental grooves sprinkled with tasty vocals!"
What Billy has done here is blend the Smooth Jazz genre with the
nu Chillout craze, and he's created a Downtempo monster! Although considered electronica by most, the grooves are fresh and alive as they mesh with Billy's ability to tickle the ivories. His guitar is a warm, full sound that would make George Benson sit up and hit repeat!
If you're a chillout/smooth jazz fan, this CD was made for you, and the part I enjoy most is that it's one of those "mixed" CD's, so the music never ends!
You're instructions are simple, slide CD in, press play and let the day's cares fade away......
...AMAZING.......2003-10-03
Innovative, original work. Everytime you listen to it... it seems it's your first time and at the same time it is as if you've heard it many many times...
elegant like a Lord work...
Finally an electronic artist with a soul........2003-08-01
Where has Billy Paul Williams been hiding? Each and every song on the album is tuneful with tasty hooks plus the variety of sounds set it apart from the usual downtempo comp. The different tempos and feels also make it extremely hard to pigeonhole "Miles to Go". And therein lies its appeal. A winner in all formtas - lounge , acid jaz, downtempo, et al.
Simply GREAT.......2003-06-25
When I initially scanned the different cuts, I didn't quite know what to think. It was a bit jazzy, a bit latin, a bit blues, a bit techno, a bit euro, a bit lounge,.. like where is this album going? Finally, I gave it a spin, or 2, or 3... The longer it was playing, the more often I kept on going back and checking if I was still listening to the same album. Then I realized that that is what made it so great. This is a great Chill Out album without the repetition or boredom.
It's hard to believe that this is all from the same artist/composer; he is so versatile, setting off so many different moods, not monotonous (like so many albums that we've all come across where the artist is playing the same theme over and over). Billy Paul Williams can go from laid back to intense, from smooth to club, while never being too intrusive.
Enough said, if you enjoy Chill Out that doesn't get stuck in one groove or on one beat or theme, you'll love this one!

Powerful. Incredible talent........2004-08-21
I came upon Ms. Bach's music quite on accident, but the instant I heard the tracks on this album, I was blown away by both her talent, which is undeniable, and the skill with which she sings. Later I discovered her website and read up on the new album, which has a completely different sound from Miles to Go. I have high, high expectations for her second album and I can't wait until its release.
A Star on the Rise.......2003-04-05
I just learned of Alex Bach a few weeks ago. After sampling her Amazon music downloads, I bought the CD. What a deep, rich, mesmerizing voice, mature beyond her years. On this album, Alex Bach exhibits the ability to either wrap her voice around a touching ballad ('Miles to Go)' or get-edgy-with-it on a song like 'Worthless'. She moves between genres with ease and there's a song on this CD to please everyone. My favorite is 'Anymore' which flows beautifully from beginning to end and captures the essence of Ms. Bach's voice and song writing ability.
The EXPLICIT LYRICS tag is a sign of the times, something Roger Daltrey and the Who didn't have to deal with 25 some years ago when 'Who are You!' was penned. I hear only one word that pushes past the envelope and it took six times through the song before I picked it out.
My prediction is that, once this young lady gets airplay, she'll immediately capture a lot of hearts and ears.

Whoa!!!! Let me catch my breath!.......2002-12-23
When I went to her website and the little promo popped up about getting a free tryout of the cd (after I had heard of her from another artist's bulletin board) I was expecting an undeveloped michelle branch (also an excellent artist) or a wannabe "carlton" (Anything but that, please!). I am glad I was completely wrong about this assumption and with the exception of one song I fully enjoy this cd. The only explicit lyrics I heard were on the last two tracks and anybody could here that on the WB or local radio. Plus compared to other artists that make cds with it throw the words around with no meaning behind them. Few artists can actually use stronger language to make a stronger song. This artist has it all, looks(definitely), voice (oh yeah!) originality, excellent rhythm, and even better lyrics. She could definitely rank up there with Michelle. On the other hand with Branch's new cd on the horizon I have another compilation of excellent music to look forward to. Above all things buy this cd. Why you ask? One to promote the artist so she can make more cds. Two: So more people can hear this cd. Three: You cannot go wrong with a cd like this. I certainly hope to hear her on a local station in the near future so that many more people can have the Bach experience. Who says Bach means classical?? Definitely not with this artist. She is a genre and class all of her own.
Alex Bach Rocks!.......2002-10-24
Alex's music is awesome! She has an amazing voice and a beautiful way with words. Her songs paint a story and are so full of emotion. All of her songs will be instant favorites. From the very emotional Miles To Go to the funky Wannabe, there is not just one song that stands out, they ALL stand out. Alex is a gifted musician. I have had the honor of seeing her play live on a few occasions and she just blew me away. As for the "explicit language", I have to say that out of the few "bad" words there is only ONE that you won't hear on a soap opera or daytime talk show. That ONE word is not used for shock or to push the envelope, but to paint an even more emotional picture. Alex is beautiful, sexy and full of attitude. Do yourself a favor and take a chance on Alex and her music, you won't be sorry. Alex just ROCKS!

Customer Reviews:
Not quite there..........2001-10-24
"I'm not gonna stand in line, oooh I'm not gonna waste my time, I need you right here with me." Lyrically, singer "Coopa" tries his best to write phrases that anyone can relate to, but they seem to end up broad and boring -- in a word: predictable. The musical phrases meander and do not open up to keep the listener interested. There is an overall lack of excitement here. Although, only a local release, this album does not seem to perform on any level.

Perhaps more evocative than compelling . . ........2003-11-16
. . . but what else should we expect from music composed specifically for movie soundtracts?
A not inapt comparison might be the soundtracts Ry Cooder has composed and performed. Always entirely suited to the particular films they're written for, they nevertheless fall somewhat short of his best playing and writing.
The same is true of this disc. Mark Ribot is always worth a listen, even when the music he's making isn't essential, as it isn't here. Still, there are lots of interesting and a few even unique soundscapes. My favorites are "Prowler," with its haunting sequencer percussion and synth effects, "Urbanight," featuring Frank London's ethereal trumpet and cool percussion from E. J. Rodriguez, "The Beast in the Jungle," with some very evocative sampled sounds buoying Anthony Coleman's scary piano, "The Killing Zone," graced by the uncanny sounds of Ned Rothenberg's shakuhachi, "Requiem for Eitan," defined by the mesmerizing violin of Mark Feldman, "The Persistence of Memory," with grunge guitar, an unrelenting backbeat, and sinister flute/sax stylings, and "Lost Children," a deceptively simple tune demonstrating Ribot's very effective use of sampled sounds in concert with electric and classical guitar treatments.
Not surprisingly, these are mostly the longer tracts, providing enough space for sufficient melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic statement and development. As one might expect, the shorter pieces are almost pure evocation--often quite interesting and certainly atmospheric, but seldom completely satisfying.
Not essential, but certainly worth a listen. 4 and 1/2 stars.

Swell Songstress.......2001-01-19
Ileana's music came to me highly recommended by one of her local fans. I was delighted with her sound. Great lyrics; talented songwriter; interesting, unique songs. I'll be glad, when she's super-big, that I was an early buyer of her first CD. Very much worth checking out!
Extraordinary musician.......2000-11-18
I didn't expect to hear such incredible music at Starbucks, but was so pleased at my initial introduction to Ileana's music. Her music blends folk and pop; her voice is captivating and so rich. She played her acoustic guitar with such ease and exptertise and it was simply invigorating to hear her sing. I bought her CD Miles To Go and look forward to her next one coming out next year.
Albuquerque can produce a star........2000-04-26
I walked into a bar and Ileana was playing. I had never heard of her before but there she was right in front of me, singing. This beautiful girl was singing such sweet sounds. I had to hear more. I bought the CD from her after the show. The CD is top notch! Her music has more than a presence; it has feeling, warmth, love and passion. The CD is titled "Miles to Go" If she keeps up this GREAT work her miles will turn into inches.
Exceptional album.......2000-04-24
In a testament to crystal clear songwriting and the sheer sonic force of Ileana, "Miles to Go" is an album one can listen to through and through...time and time again. Her heartfelt and complex tales of ambivalence and turbulence life lessons, is something everyone can recognize. She indeed takes you on a journey of each and every possible emotion. Each song is graced with the passionate resonance provided by the searing yet impeccable vocals of Ileana. This is one album that should be added to everyone's collection.
Killer CD.......2000-01-22
Ileana has an incredible sound and lyrics. The music is intoxicating. I think you would be crazy for not adding this CD to your Music Collection.
