Gripping..........2007-02-07
Four years ago it was a complete fluke that "Love Is Blind" ended up in my music collection. Its ethereal sound took me by surprise, and not only that, the mood through the CD varied from melancholy to hopeful making sure not to leave one in a cadaverous state. The vocals are both haunting and heavenly making one unsure if they are indeed in hell or paradise.
It was this CD that opened me up to a whole new world of "dark wave" sounds and musicians including Cocteau Twins, Hungry Lucy, Collide, which then lead me to the unearthly sounds of Dead Can Dance and Delirium. If you recognize any of these musicians, you just may enjoy "Love Is Blind". If you enjoy "Love Is Blind" but desire something harder and with more beat I recommend checking out Clair Voyant's collaboration CD "Time Again".
Doesn't let you go.......2005-07-24
It's a crime that this band isn't more popular. Having gotten that off my chest...
It's hard to categorize this music. I suppose it would be dumped into the goth category, by the virtue of the sadness and occasinally darkness that permeates their songs, but that would be doing the band a disservice. Claire Voyant stands alone. The music and words are deceptively simple, but touched by the honey colored vocals of the lead singer, they become beautiful.
The prize on this record (there are so many, though!) is Twenty Four Years, the sheer longing of which is magnified by the constant refrain of time. Silence, He Is Here, Pieces are all extraordinary songs and taken together, this is the CD that would be difficult to pry out of your CD player.
If you love this, do get Time and the Maiden, which is perhaps even darker. I can't find the first Claire Voyant self-titled outing in print, and I wish they'd rerelease it. Such gorgeous music should be pumping out of all radios simultaneously, I just wish...
Time is a sign of quality.......2004-09-17
This recording was likeable on the first listen, but after repeated listenings, it has grown to be one of my absolute favorites. This cd is a rarity to me because very few cd's have I loved every song. I love every song here. Every echo, every strum, every bird call...it's shear perfection. This group deserves your attention! It is now June of 2005, and I am back listening to this remarkable CD. I just noticed that quitly in the background there are similar sounds in some songs that can be heard in others that actually link all the songs together sort of. There is a bird like sound that appears quietly in the background from time to time. This CD is so cool!Victoria Llyod's vocals are so gentle and powerful that they become the music, and flow and soar with it and melt into the songs instead of here's the band and here's the singer. The first song, "Pieces" sounds like a single. It's a very very good song, but more radio friendly than the rest. It echoes and the birds are in the background again...Only Victoria could pull the second song "Twentyfour Years" off. It requires a subtle soaring vocal...and she pulls it off flawlessly. Her vocals are confident, with out being conceeded, and she can sing natually without goofy vocal acrobatics. The bird calls are back on "Mirror" and they get more prominent here....simply gorgeous.....I was driving to work one day and was rounding a curve on a mountain as a pink sunrise was occuring...and "Abyss" came on my car stereo....never have I heard a stunning sunrise such as this...The vocals are again amazing on "Silence".The guitar work is extremely compelling...My least favorite track is "He Is Here". It just is kind of a song someone else might do. I like it, but it's not my fav."Close To Me" has an edge and grungy guitar....it's way cool! And the vocals soar once again..."Warm" starts out quiet...and ends up glowing and subtlely powerful by the end...like a glowing sunrise..The clunky "Not Like Me" is a beautiful sour sounding songThe CD concludes with a beautiful song "Love Is Blind" I can't stop playing this one with it's echoing piano...and a scratching noise for the beat. They don't make songs as perfect as this, do they? YES THEY DO...and this cd is it!This cd is like foating in the sky...looking at the sun...looking at the clouds..looking at the ground and the lights,...and the people...and feeling love and loved....and lonliness....hope...and despare...There have only been a handful of near perfect albums:1] this one2] Lene Lovich "Flex"3] kate Bush "The Dreaming"4] Gary Numan "Exile"5] Siouxsie And The Bashees "JuJu"
Be patient, this will grow on you..........2004-01-19
Claire Voyant is actually a three person group that consists of Victoria Lloyd (vocals), Chris Ross (programming), and Ben Fargen (guitars). Together they create some amazing songs and weave a certain magic that's continually felt in their music that's haunting yet profoundly rich with elegance. 'Time and the Maiden' is a brilliant album all around and of course it's going to be hard to beat but I'm glad they didn't try to duplicate what can't be repeated. It's good to experiment, and while it doesn't always work to their advantage I applaud musicians for attempting new ways to evolve as an artist. They haven't strayed too terribly far from their original sound (they still venture into dreamy electronica) but most of the material heard on 'Love Is Blind', which I admit took a long time to grow on me, is a bit more upbeat than usual with ethereal "pop" sensibilities. Victoria's singing is also more airy here, which I find to be gorgeous on "Abyss", in particular; however, I still find her singing to be powerful and moving. And the messages conveyed in their lyrics, as well as the beautiful and emotionally charged melodies, touch you like a warm ray of light on a cold yet sunny winter's day while remaining dark and hypnotically mysterious.
And FYI, the meaning of clairvoyant is 'one possessing the supposed power to see what cannot be perceived by the senses'.
Not much, but more than enough........2003-06-27
I think this is a great album. It is very simple and beautiful all the way through, without much change, but all the same keeps you entertained. Could have been spectacular if she had pushed herself for just a little exta feeling/volume a few times.

The Best Remix Album Is Ever Is ima Again!.......2007-02-14
I absolutely despise most remix albums. This one is an acception. Amazing! Beautiful! The best tracks on this CD are #5 Majesty-rmx by A23, #6 Love The Giver -rmx by Covenant, and #11 Everafter-rmx by J. Stephen Foster. Claire Voyant are for the most part a gothic/new age band..Time Again is the electronic remixes of thier best songs..and it's wonderful!
A surprisingly impressive set of remixes.......2004-10-25
Claire Voyant (or Victoria Lloyd) has one of the most uniquely bewitching voices I've ever heard before and that is saying a lot as I am a huge collector of female sirens. I am also an avid devote to CV's otherworldly accompaniments and squeal with childish excitement anytime she brings something new out. However, I must confess, I was rather skeptic about buying 'Time Again', and when I finally did it took quite a while to grow on me. The original versions of all these songs are so stunning on their own, I simply could not imagine anyone toying with their present state of perfection. So, just as I feared, none of these remixes show any real strengths when it comes to surpassing previous greatness but there certainly are some interesting rearangments I found myself enjoying a lot more once I actually gave this album a chance. Despite it's lack of unforgettable melodies, one thing's for sure: The lineup of remixers is enough to grab the attention of some unfortunate EBM fans that may not otherwise be familiar with Claire Voyant's music, which is a very good thing, for the standout tracks provide an abundance of energetic beats that I find to be much more assessable as you go dancing, for example, at an Industrial/Goth club. But, as I stated before, they're definitely not better than the originals, nor are they refined (as if they could be!). Several choice cuts do liven the experience, though; taking unexpected lives of their own. There's a couple loungy jazz/downtempo exceptions here too, showcasing a variety of different styles...
A few recognizable DJs include Front 242, VNV Nation, Assemblage 23, Eskil Simonsson of Covenant, Haujobb, Love Spirals Downwards and Trance to the Sun, but a notable mention must go out to cut.rate.box for a job well done on "Mercy".
Word of advice: If your new to CV's music I recommend you start out with 'Time and the Maiden' where all (except for "Serenade") of the originals derive from and to table this for later consideration.
great rmixes of Claire Voaynt.......2001-02-14
Everything on this ablum is exceptional, from the just eevil bassline of the cut.rate.box mix to the trip-hop side of luxt to the dnb w/ saxaphone of love spirals downwards. The artists represented give a good overview of whats new in the field, and many of the artists, luxt, vnv nation, cut.rate.box, and love spirals downwards, have new ablums out now which are must haves if you like their work here. excellent electronica with with gorgeous female vox. a must have!

Album Description
After nearly a year of overseas collaborations, the duo known as HMB is poised to have their debut offering unleashed to the world. Comprised of Daniel Myer (Haujobb and Cleen/Cleaner) and Victoria Lloyd (Claire Voyant), the two set out to create a new boundary for experimentation. Fusing elements of EBM, techno and trance with the elegant vocal styling of Victoria and the distinctive programming of Daniel has made this album a beautifully crafted masterpiece. To complement an already solid combination, the pair also enlisted the help of Dennis Ostermann (ISC and Controlled Fusion) and Vanessa Briggs (Haujobb) to add yet another twist to the equation. Tracks such as "wanted" and "this fire" will be guaranteed floor fillers at clubs throughout the country. Their debut release, Great Industrial Love Affairs will appeal to the fans of Haujobb, Delerium, Collide and Switchblade Symphony and will not disappoint even the toughest of critics.
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful, super-cool industrial beats.......2005-10-11
This is a great album! combining cool industrial sounds with both male and female vocals across fourteen excellent tracks. Personal favourites include "everything", which is a beautiful but hard-hitting industrial epic and "this fire", one of the more poppy, but still wonderfully crafted songs. Buy it!!
The dark beauty in the machine.......2002-07-27
When this project was initially underway, Victoria Lloyd sent me some of the demo tracks and I knew immediately that this was going to be a classic among EBM/Industrial dance fans. The enigmatic Daniel Meyer worked with members of Claire Voyant on some of the songs as well as a few other notable music figures in the underground, in order to tweak some of the best performances out of the combined group.
Although this is a slight change of pace of Meyer's previous works, it nonetheless creates a new benchmark for the artist to demonstrate that it is possible to skirt with various genres while still remaining loyal to fans from other work and genres.
One of the long standing debates in the underground scene has been the contention that Goth music hasn't evolved or that EBM/Industrial/ Synthpop has taken over too much of the Goth fan's attention.
HMB did the seemingly impossible. They combined the morose and forlorn emotional tides of gothic music, wrapped it up with frothy electro/industrial pulse beats and skewered it through many vocal intonations. Simply put, this CD is a brilliant piece of work that crossed the genre boundaries, signifying that Goth music and industrial music can in fact have a great marriage when enough forethought is given to its construction.
Daniel Meyer is to be lauded for the accomplishment of delivering a new body of work to his already well known classic works with Haujobb. Meyer brought out best sounds from the various artists who contributed to this project and simply disproved that Goth music is a static entity, unable to develop or venture beyond its tonal old school qualities from the 1980's.
Victoria Lloyd has had quite a following from her work with the Claire Voyant, and simply demonstrated that she is not a singular range vocalist. Her sounds can go from smooth as silk to seductively wicked in the span of a breath. Lloyd simply seduces, soothes, caresses and entices vocally, while Meyer is the musical whipping master, driving listeners into a frenzy. Along with other Claire Voyant band mates, Chris Ross and Benn Fargen, the additional evolvement of their abilities is simply brought to an innovative height to a whole new audience through the genius of Meyer.
Do seek out this recording if you like industrial dance music. Also if you are prone to Goth music with a bit more bounce to it, this should become a welcome mélange for your collection.
WickED.......2002-01-26
I am a huge Haujobb fan, and now I am a huge h-m-b fan! This album has songs that will be classics I am sure. "Wanted" and "This Fire" are easily my favorites and the sultry vocals of that siren are beyond compare. I am happy to see it released in the US.

Do NOT miss this opportunity!.......2007-07-14
Anyone "in the know" appreciates Victoria Lloy'd lyrics on Claire Voyant's debut album - which seem to resonate to depths that few people explore. Tracks like "Deep" and "Someday" (along with the majority of the album) really hit hard. If you have doubts about this album, one listening of "Wanderlust" will certainly bend your ear in the best way possible.
While Claire Voyant's work has been typically classified as darkpop/darkwave/goth (or at least goth-inspired), the group's more recent endeavor under the name "Mono Chrome" is also worth a listen, especially if you're a fan of the IDM/EBM genre. Victoria's unique, lush vocals still shine through, no less soulful, no less inspired, and certainly no less introspective.
Those who would bash Claire Voyant or Mono Chrome clearly cannot appreciate the non-cookiecutter brand of expression. Victoria Lloyd and Enya are WORLDS apart - but that does not make them any less excellent lyricists or vocalists in their own right. We are talking about VERY different worlds after all.
Those of you still in doubt, check out samples of their music on iTunes (even if iTunes has a bad habit of not sampling the best part of a song).
This allbum (not just the remastered version, but the original) are outstanding. As you can tell by the hefty price it IS considered a "must have" in the music collection of anyone who can truly appreciate originality and heart-wrenching honesty. This is a hard to find selection and prices elsewhere aren't any less. Still, it's very much worth the purchase for diehard fans of Claire Voyant and Victoria Lloyd.
Beauty in one of its purest forms.......2005-07-08
Claire Voyant have been one of my favorite bands for about two years now. Their debut certainly has an underlying layer of darkness to it, but on the surface it is a dreamy, smooth and entirely addictive set of soulful and passionate tunes. The mood changes from one track to the next, though never too drastically.
It's hard to describe the music using genre, however. The band describe themselves as Dream-pop, but I find the name misleading. Mix ethereal, light rock and a dash of darkwave and you get... Claire Voyant. Amazing vocals, beautiful sounds and smooth composition. Highly recommended work.
Highlights: Heaven Knows, Her, Aqua, Land and Sea, Fear.
Morning Comes is the only song I routinely skip.
Bet You Haven't Heard This Kind Of Music Before.......2002-11-06
This is a major sleeper album. A mellow album which packs a punch, "Clair Voyant's" debut is amazing to listen to. The band consists of a female vocalist, keyboard player and guitarist. The music is almost etheral, but the vocals are more powerful and more "showtunes" like than something by Enya or Kate Bush. "Her" has got to be one of the greatest songs ever written. "Heaven Knows", "Deep" and "Someday" are also fantastic tracks. It's a shame that Claire Voyant hasn't gotten the recognition it deserves. The music has more of a gothic alternative feel to it, which pretty much explains why they will have a hard time in the top 20. If you like Enya or even Siouxsie, do yourself a favor and pick up this album. You won't be disappointed.

Victoria, would you sing at my funeral? (Sometime later on).......2002-01-17
The soundscape on "Time and the Maiden" is a distillation of Cocteau Twins, The Shroud, Lycia and Skinner Box-era Julianna Towns. The whole thing goes down smoother than 30-year-old brandy.
Benjamin Fargen's guitar gently floats in a sea of reverb, while Chris Ross gives us just enough synth drums to keep time. Hazy keyboard melodies hold the middle ground between the other instruments and Victoria Lloyd's voice. No, not voice - Voice. How the hell does she sound so world-weary and so yearning at the same time? Practice, I guess.
All the songs are elegant mood pop. Great slow-dance music for ghosts. The trip-hop beats keep "Maiden" from getting too ethereal. Lloyd's lyrics focus on love and what a drag it is to be mortal. Since the songs have a consistent sound, it's hard to list "standouts."
The influences behind Claire Voyant's style jump out at you from song to song. This stuff is two parts ethereal, one part alpha state, one part heartache. Very soothing, slightly haunting.
A sidenote: if you wanna hear a remix of track five ("Majesty") that's even better than the album version, order "Fairies, Elves & Angels Vol. I" through this site.
amazing.......2001-10-03
if you buy soundtracks to get that perfect orchestrated sound with incredible vocals you no longer need to do that. This is one hauntingly beautiful CD that will touch your core. Perfect for the goth enthusiast
a soaring voice.......2001-09-24
The first thing that strikes you about Claire Voyant's music is Victoria Lloyd's soaring voice. She is incredible. Strong and soaring with an impressive range, Lloyd really makes this CD shine with her emotional delivery. The music is thoughtful and almost ethereal, without being boring. The underlying music features mostly synths and some light guitars (nothing cruncy or heavy here). The drums are epic but not to heavy or loopy or dancy (which I think is a good thing - too many artists these days are getting caught up in making things dancy at the cost of being unoriginal.
I have a really hard time trying to pinpoint Claire Voyant's music or fit it within one distinct genre, or even try to compare them to someone else. They are original and creating their own thing. I know this probably won't help you in deciding if you want to give them a try. If you like the Hyperium Heavenly Voices compilations (their prominent placement on Volume IV really helped Claire Voyant gain a number of new fans) then you will likely enjoy this release. Victoria Lloyd definitely has a heavenly voice.
beautiful music.......2001-03-29
A subtle and sweet album of soaring vocals and semi-trip hop and gothic flavor, this continues to be my favorite of early 2001. The mid-paced tempo is at times though very pompous, keeping the organic triphop and rock styles from showing itself too much. The focus of 90% of the music however is the clean, breathless voice of Victoria Lloyd's melody lines who, for old timers might recognize a bit of Karen Carpenter. Victoria carries this album almost too much though, prancing, pondering and yearning nonstop; yet songs such as Time and The Maiden, Lolite, and Blinking Tears are so mesmerizingly beautiful I just want to play them over and over again. Focusing, the music does actually come out, complementing everything in lush rhythm. In a way, this is not too ethereal, delicate, and sad, but rather strong and decorative mostly. There are the ethereal songs, the trippy songs, and the gothic songs throughout, but mostly I see this as beautiful music. I liken this as something in between the cold electronic passion of Portishead to the warm-blooded rock exploration of Dutch group The Gathering. For those familiar, Victoria is almost quite the clone of The Gathering's Anneke Van Giersbergen. Love the Giver, Bittersweat are wonderful, sub-woofer booming, trippy remakes - something the new album Time Again should review (average album of Industrial DJ remixes). The last song seems to point to a new direction for the band.

really not as bad as a critic may say.......2006-12-26
To the reviewer saying Claire Voyant is mediocre I ask why so many reputable artists have remixed Claire Voyant on the album "Time And Again"? Could it be the reviewer is resently about other issue such as the high price of music albums in general and not the actual album purchased? Claire Voyant may not end of up as your favorite artist, but it is certainly not as horible as this reviewer says. I would certainly recommend downloading the song "Her" from an online music store since the album it appears on is out-of-print, hard-to-find, and expensive.
A striking debut.......2000-07-16
The mythical singing, the guiter loops, and the skillful programming contribute to an album with beautiful soundscapes and haunting melodies. A good voice is indispensable to success in an album. I think Victoria is one of the best female vocal ever. Her angelic voice is the main instrument in the album.
The opening song Heavenknows is my beloved song until now, that's why I use it as my phoney name. It begins with dreamy guitars and then the appearance of Victoria's voice, some stringed instruments are also added, it's entirely seductive.
The next song Her shares the same style and atmosphere with much more passionate sound and singing. Deep and Someday continue the upbeat melodies with powerful drums and majestic sound.
The arrangements of the songs cannot be compared with some main stream pop songs, they deliver outstanding and skillful arrangements of guitar and programming, you can never predict what will happen in the next step.
The success of this album also attributable to some everlasting love song like Wanderlust, Land and sea, they give the sense of eternity, I got hooked to it instantly.
I highly recommend this album and ther improved second album.
Hope they'll be enormously famous!
Very disappointing.......2000-03-04
I have no idea why there are any good reviews for this band at all. I think it's because the average person has no real understanding of what good music is. There are lots of bands out there with similiar style that blows this band away. Claire Voyant's vocals are weak(I have no idea why one reviewer said the vocals are incredibel. I guess that person's never heard ELizabeth Frazier, Kate Bush, Sarah Mclachlan, Harriet Wheeler, and many other excellent female vocalists), the medolies are boring and repetitive, and the arrangements lack innovation and complexity. Just off the top of my head, I can name bands that are better: Cranes, Dead Can Dance, Cocteau twins, Bel Canto, Love Spirals Downward, and many others with similiar sound. This is mediocrity, and if you don't believe me, take a listen to any sample from the bands I mentioned and compare them to this band. Don't waste your money on this expensive import as I did. I can't even sell this to a used CD store because no one's heard of them.
Moody Haunting and Lyrical.......1999-12-06
This has got to be one of the most amazing independant albums of all times. Trying to describe the bands sound is almost impossible. Goth? Well, yes. Ethereal? Certainly. Lush? Beyond a doubt. Victoria's voice is truly awesome, but once you've listened to the CD a few times, you notice the subtle, but beautiful music that backs her up. And then, you listen to the lyrics. Deeply personal, and still speaking to the listener in unexpected ways, Claire Voyant's songs will leave you changed.
Buy this album. Try to get your hands on the next one.

Mixed songs - mixed album.......2000-08-15
As most remix albums go, this one has ups and downs. To be fair, there are more ups than a typical remix album. Particularly the last two tracks, Beborn Beton's mix of Majesty and Trance to the Sun's treatment of Serenade, are quiet nice, as well as several others. However some of the remixers just didn't try to hard - Eskil Simonsson (of Covenant) is better than the not-so-exciting mix of Love the Giver (the original being absolutely beautiful) would suggest. Front 242's mix of Eventide was surprisingly attentive to the original, unlike VNV Nation's typical 'mixing in own image'. If you like Claire Voyant and are wondering what it would be like with some beats added for a bit more club-friendly vibe, get this album - there's bound to be something you like. If you want to be introduced to CV, get Time and the Maiden first.

almost impossible for me to be objective.......2006-10-01
I lived in Sacramento in the mid-'90s and was lucky enough to work with Victoria Lloyd for a while. I heard several of the songs later included on this first album on the band's demo tape. I also attended a few of their very early, and very small, gigs. And then, as will happen, I moved and lost touch with the band, although I continued to buy their albums as they came out.
The self-titled album will always occupy a special place in my heart as I had just started writing at the time, and found inspiration in every track. It was also my introduction to ethereal goth/dakrwave and for that alone, I'll treasure it.
However, looking back after nearly a decade and with much more familiarity with the genre, Claire Voyant still holds up surprisingly well. The three members of the band have achieved a fantastic balance; Victoria's lovely, lush voice is well matched by Chris' haunting electronics and Ben's almost delicate guitar. Combine that balance with Victoria's fascinating lyrics and you end up with a result that makes you wonder why this band doesn't have a much larger following.
