True Tribute.......2007-03-11
It may seem odd to honor a SoCal punk band like the Offspring with a string tribute, but i can't see a better way to pay tribute than with a genre so wildly different and unthinkable. The fact that string tribute actually works demonstrates the strength of their compositions and owes a lot to the masterful music arrangement and production. Music is about ever evolving ideas and genre bending, and musicians are supposed to take one another's music and challenge our preconceived notions. I especially recommend tracks 2 - The Kids Aren't Alright, 6 - Self Esteem and 8 - Want you Bad. The original composition - Off String, does a beautiful job of capturing the spirit the music and definitely holds its own against the other tracks. This is a must have for the true Offspring fan as well as anyone else looking for an irreverent take on this genre.
Too Literal.......2006-02-08
The string quartet tribute to these Offspring songs are, in my opinion, a bit too literal. They try too hard to stick - strictly - to the original song and sometimes it produces awkward sounding music. For example, I think the best piece on this CD is the original song composed by the group performing in this CD. In a sense this is less a tribute than a translation, and the Offspring did just fine with their original instruments. Offspring fans might enjoy this CD, but I would reccomend any string quartet tribute - done by Todd Mark Rubenstein and David Davidson - to your other favorite band.
Think Metallica -> Apocalyptica.......2005-11-27
If you were to take an accoustic version of the featured Offspring songs, then have Apocalyptica cover them, this is probably what you would get.
This isn't a disk *by* the Offspring, it's a string tribute to them. It's good for when you want some Offspring, but in a relaxing background form. The music is wonderfully arranged for the most part, with a few sparse moments not quit living up to what I think they could have. Overall, if you can pick this up for a decent price, it is definitely a must-have for a true Offspring fan who can appreciate music that's a little on the classical side.
IT SUCKS ASS.......2005-08-25
i hate it i hate it i hate it
its dumb, it sucks, and its embarassing.
This is an utter disgrace to my favorite band. How can you POSSIBLY compare orchestra to THE OFFSPRING???? Plus, the orchestra sucks. Want some offspring? buy a REAL cd!

The greatest.......2004-02-26
The Kids Arent Alright.
Many people go "Andy, why do you listen to it so much?"
Allow me to explain.
I grew up in a small town in Kentucky, where childhood was great. Then I was moved to england around my 14th year. I got caught up in bitter fighting between the pakistanis and chinese gangs (although all the chinese say im pretty fly for a white guy). Later, (now) I actually live in China. But the reason the song affects me so is because when i went home or call my friends, this kind of stuff is happening to them all. I know if I had stayed, I too would have fallen into that pit.So I listen to this song far too often, as a reminder that even though i went through alot of bruises, cuts, wounds and knife gashes, I escaped and realized the plans the Lord, or destiny or whatever you believe have in store.
Just buy Americana instead........1999-10-23
Okay, so the 4 star rating doesn't quite fit with the one-line summary, but let me explain. This is a nice CD, with the Offspring's best single in ages and live tracks (there's two versions, I got one with Walla Walla live and the Pretty Fly video on CD-ROM, but some people have one with Pretty Fly live). Unless you really want the live tracks, no. Just buy American instead. Better yet, buy Smash and listen to real Offspring.
The Parents Aren't All Right.......1999-08-08
The song "Kids Aren't All Right" is probably the best song in the history of man kind. I was listening it from MTV europe the other day and my mom happened to sit around. Of course I was taking EVERYTHING out of the song, by putting the TV on max out put. But I don't know what was it, but mom DIDN'T like it much??? Well who cares about people over 30 RIGHT? Ask me I think I'm just gonna buy the album just because of that song, although "Pretty Fly..." and "Why Don't U..." are not bad songs.
The Best Single on Americana.......1999-08-08
Like I said, 5 stars! The Kids Aren't Alright is the best single from Americana, but reason to buy this CD are the live versions of Pretty Fly and Walla Walla. If you are a big Offspring fan, buy this CD!
The best release of Americana !.......1999-08-05
In my opinion "Pretty Fly..." and "Why don't you get a job?" were two of the worst songs I heard by The Offspring. Finally, they started to get back onto their old track by releasing this excellent song. Let's hope that the best is yet to come..
