Atmospheric blend of quality. Very good!
Album Description
The Messengers' UNDER THE BLOOD album conveys powerful Christian themes contained in melodic rock, country, inspirational and adult contemporary musical styles. All songs were written and arranged by group members Tommy Clark and Jeff Clark. While the lyrical content is consistently Christian, The Messengers never get into a "rut" musically. Featuring The Messengers' tight vocal harmonies and outstanding musicianship, this album displays the group's ability to vary smooth musical tempos and styles throughout.

There seem to be two major camps of U2 fans now: Those who dig the early albums (good and sensible people), and those who only like the ones from the '90s, putting everything previous down as "classic rock." But U2 only became a classic rock sort of band in 1984, with The Unforgettable Fire. The real early stuff, from '80 to '83, still comes off as edgy--and it's comparatively ignored. Here's a sampler: Under a Blood Red Sky is from a U.S. tour (1983's) in which U2 still thought of itself as a hungry little band from Ireland--and draws (fairly wisely) from the band's first three albums. There's nary a misstep on the entire disc, although it could stand a few more tracks. --Gavin McNett
Customer Reviews:
Am I imagining this or is the CD missing something?.......2007-07-16
I wore the vinyl out in college so I replaced it with a CD copy a couple of years back. I just listened to it and I believe the audio CD is missing a portion from "Electric Co." There's a slow breakdown in the middle of the song - I could swear that my vinyl contained a part where Bono is adlibbing "Send in the Clowns". There's a clumsy edit on the CD on this part (it's very abrupt) which leads me to believe my memory isn't as bad as I rhought. Anyone else with this memory?
Agree about the repackaging.......2007-03-31
I'd take it further and have a box set from the first 3 tours, include "Under a Blood Red Sky" video UNCUT with U2 Commentary (it's long overdue), US Festival, and the TV appearances from 1978-1983.
I have noticed U2 starting to go backwards in putting their live shows on DVD. We've got Popmart now, but Zoo TV, the 1988 windup show of the Joshua Tree/Rattle and Hum tour, the Unforgettable Fire live performances (making of is part of "Go Home") and this one still have yet to be released. It is interesting to see how they've gone through a lot of changes as live performers.
It might have to be something similar to what Neil Young and KISS are planning, a multidisc retrospective.
A good look at the first three album.......2007-03-25
This album contains the best from U2 from the three first album.
The choice of song is quite good and the songs are played with energy by the band. The highlight are "11 oclock Tick Tock", "Sunday bloody Sunday", "New year's day" and "40"
It's U2's early years... enuff said!.......2007-03-09
Classic U2 - the band that continually gets better with every album released. My only 'gripe' with this one is the poorer "live" recording quality of the time.
Good .......2007-01-12
This album was my introduction to U2 many years ago and I've been a U2 fan ever since. Even though I'm not a big fan of live albums I think this one captures the essence of U2's early years. My only complaint is the short song selection. For those who have U2's early albums perharps the best treat here is the 2 non-album tracks 11 O'clock Tick Tock and Party Girl. For those who don't have those early albums this is a nice compilation of the very basics. In some cases I actually like the live versions better than the studio ones, such as in 40 and particularly Gloria. I would give this album ***1/2 but that's not possible.

Customer Reviews:
Awesome Set!.......2007-07-01
I am a huge fan of Jerry Goldsmith. They did a great job preserving his vision. I can listen to this collection for hours. Great music!
Elmer Bernstein Film Music Collection.......2006-11-03
This is compilation of hit film music from one of the greatest composers in motion pictures. What is surprising though is the music not included like the Ghost And The Darkness, the 13th Warrior, Rudy and others. To be sure, 4 discs are not enough for a composure of this stature. THe recording, however, is an "engineering masterpiece" which makes the music even more enjoyable than when you first heard it at the movies. When are we ging to get the music that was omittd from this compilaton?
Overall a strong Goldsmith sampler.......2006-04-11
Okay, this is a CD review, so the focus is on music, but I've got to say this first: this has got to be a contender for the ugliest cover art ever. I mean, come on...instead of a tribute to the composer, the cover looks like someone spilled a glass of merlot over a NASA photo.
Fortunately, even an ugly cover will not ruin good music. And the good news is that I'd say about 75 percent of the music is good....and on a 4 cd set, that's a lot. Like other Silva compilations, the strength of this compilation is the variety. There are selections from the big releases (Star Trek, Omen, Rambo), but there is also a healthy dose of tracks from the smaller releases(Under Fire, Lionheart, The Swarm).
Two examples come to mind. Capricorn One and The Great Train Robbery are two movies that are not exactly household names today, but are dominated by two of Goldmith's finest main themes. The City of Prague Philharmonic come through with terrific renditions. And there are plenty of other strong performances...a few being concert versions conducted by Goldsmith himself. Suprisingly, "The Wind and the Lion" works, which is no small accomplishment given the ferentic original performance of "Raisuli Attacks".
It's not a complete success. A few of the performances fall flat, particularly some of the more inventive scores. Total Recall is just bad, mangling the performance with poor percussion and synthesizer choices to boot. Also a letdown is the Klingon Attack from the first Star Trek movie. The Prague Philhamonic attempt doesn't sound bad--it's just that once you've heard the original soundtrack's "blaster beam" with enough bass to rattle your teeth...well let's just say Silva's version is a little tinny in comparison.
But I shouldn't dwell on the negative. Overall, this is a strong sampler of Goldsmith's variety. There are plenty of quality performances here, and despite a few omissions (noticeably Planet of the Apes)this is a very good release from Silva.
Jerry Goldsmith - 40 years of pleasure.......2006-02-22
It was wonderful to hear Mr. Goldsmith's music that went all the way back to The Man from UNCLE, The Waltons, Dr Kildare, etc. And then to hear his music up to the present. The man was a genius!
Almost the perfect compilation.......2005-12-31
Age has its value.... This sweeping collection of compositions brings back so many great memories. This collection shows how significant Goldsmith was for both the movie screen and the small screen. With such a grand collection, every reader can be assured that at least one movie or TV program they like or remember had Goldsmith's contribution. It was an amazing life and the collection well worth having.
However, as sweepig as it is, there are a few holes in the selection. "First Contact", one of the sweetest and richest compositions from the Star Trek is absent. "The Ghost and the Darkness" is missing and the "Medicine Man" music should include the theme song. By dwelling on several selections from the Blue Max, these were squeezed out. Three full and important movie themes got the axe.
However, all but "The Ghost and the Darkness" are readily available and not overly expensive as is the "Ghost" CD. This is a must have for the TV and movie music fan.
Before there was Hans Solo there was Napolean Solo, before ER there was Dr. Kildare. Jerry Goldsmith IS Sci-Fi. "Resistance is futile.. you MUST assimilate this CD collection."

I have to be honest...I was wrong!.......2007-05-12
I sold my copy of 'Bringer of Blood' a few years ago because I was clearing out my CD collection & after hearing SFU's latest masterpiece 'Commandment,' I started to think about what I had done; so I hopped back on Amazon & listened to the sound samples & they sounded pretty damn good! I instantly went on Ebay & found a real cheap copy & once I got it I realized that I truly liked this album more than I had thought! Yes it's not typical death metal, but damn it's just a rockin' album! It reminded me of SFU's 'Graveyard Classics' which I really enjoyed! Bottom line...if you want a metal album that's just heavy & has a good groove throughout...then 'Bringer of Blood' delivers! Sorry Mr. Barnes, I admit I originally sold this album with haste! Glad to have this back in my collection again!
Chris Barnes, stop this s**t now. PLEASE........2006-08-09
This is embarassing. Because of bands like this and Mortician, people think death metal sucks. Here's some death metal that blows this out of the water:
Cannibal Corpse
Nile
Cryptopsy
Death
Obituary
Deicide
Torture Killer
Children of Bodom
In Flames
Soilwork
Opeth
Scar Symmetry
Atheist
Cynic
Suffocation
Dying Fetus
Morbid Angel
Malevolent Creation
Vader
and more...
Chris Barnes, please stop doing this. You're making a fool of yourself and the whole metal community. Chris Barnes is destroying his reputation while Corpsegrinder is keeping Cannibal Corpse a staple in Death Metal, as well as releasing "Kill", which is one of their best CD's. Onto the CD, Chris Barnes tries to add vibrato to death growling. This doesn't do well. Oh well, I think. Death Metal isn't known for vocals anyway, so maybe this isn't so bad. Wrong. The lyrics sound like they were written by a 3rd grader. It's hard to believe the guitarist is from Obituary, because his playing style is nothing like it was in Obituary. His riffs are generic, and this album only has one solo, which involves him doing an annoying harmonic dive. The bass is unhearable, and the drums sound out of place.
If you want a good Chris Barnes performance, get "The Bleeding" or Torture Killer's new CD(Torture Killer is much better that SFU. Chris Barnes is now dabbling in Swedish Metal.)
Less green, more creativity Barnes!.......2006-08-07
I know I may not be the only one who thinks this, but ever since Chris left Cannibal Corpse, his career has been going through a downward spiral. His music is simple and repetitive, his vocals lame and annoying, and everything is just awful and dull. SFU's only redeeming value is that guitarrist from Obituary, thats it.
I listened to this for five minutes, took it out in disgust, and put in CC's Kill. Instant satisfaction.
Skippy Dippy Doopy Doo.......2006-07-03
I enjoy the musical styling of this band and i intend to continue listening to them. I do not enjoy people writing reviews that tell me what bands i should and should not like. Reviews of that type make me sad. If you like the same kind of music that I like, you should get this cd. If you like the same kind of music that I like, you probably already have this cd.
Horrible horrible excuse for death metal.......2006-06-04
Chris Barnes' voice couldn't sound brutal if his life depended on it. Lyric writing is horrendous...new Metallica has more intelligent lyrics than these guys. I never bought this album, i borrowed it from a friend so i didn't waste my money on this garbage. But anywho, "when skin turns blue"....is there anything to say to that song title? "It's time to die when your skin turns blue. Your skin turned blue when you breathed your last breath" these lyrics have the technicality of a 4th grader's poem. Now face these lyrics with some intelligent lyrics like i don't know umm...DYING FETUS!. Dying Fetus can write awesome lyrics that have insight on politics and religion and how everything is corrupted in modern american society. Okay, i've heard some silly song titles...but "Amerika the Brutal"?!?!?!?! i think Chris Barnes was trying to have a political view in this song, but it failed horribly...and why spell America with a "k" might as well say "amerika teh broootal". Silly. Save 10-15 bucks and don't buy this, go buy "Destroy the Opposition" by Dying Fetus.

Great high-energy foot-stomping hand-clapping gospel!.......1998-12-15
I was fortunate enough to stumble upon Slim and the Supreme Angels one year at the New Orleans Jazz Fest, and I was immediately hooked. This CD does a fine job of capturing their live sound--a mix of raging foot-stompers and soulful ballads. Especially impressive is the strong lead guitar of Sugar Hightower. Guaranteed to lift your spirits.
