Book Description
Clear, concise, and persuasive, Atheist Universe details exactly why God is unnecessary to explain the universe and life's diversity, organization, and beauty. The author thoroughly rebuts every argument that claims to "prove" God's existence — arguments based on logic, common sense, philosophy, ethics, history and science.
Atheist Universe avoids the esoteric language and logic used by philosophers and presents its scientific evidence in simple lay terms, making it a richly entertaining and easy-to-read introduction to atheism. A comprehensive primer, it addresses all the historical and scientific questions, including: Is there proof that God does not exist? What evidence is there of Jesus's resurrection? Can creation science reconcile scripture with the latest scientific discoveries?
Atheist Universe also answers ethical issues such as: What is the meaning of life without God? It's a spellbinding inquiry that ultimately arrives at a controversial and well-documented conclusion.

Very much a beginner's book.......2007-06-28
While I believe wholeheartedly on every conclusion David Mills reaches, his arguments for them are mediocre at best. Likewise, I thought the same of "The God Delusion", only Dawkin's arguments were slightly (and I want to stress the word slighly) better, so take this comment as you will.
Mills also misuses the term "philosophy" several times. He associates the term with religious thought (sort of like associating morals exclusively with religion) and gives it this negative connotation which it does not deserve. All that philosophy tries to do is to clarify.
On the plus, it did give me other ideas for arguing against various Christian positions, only I will work them out better than they are presented here in this book.
Thank you for your time.
Excellent primer.......2007-06-16
There are now quite a few books on this general topic, many of which are really good. I especially liked this one because it's a good starting place, especially if you find yourself debating christianity or religion with a true believer. He starts out with a chapter that basically covers all the high points and then takes on different issues one at a time in the following chapters. The style is fairly accesible and engaging and the author gives the impression of being a fairly normal guy. This was probably the fourth or fifth book I read on this topic, but if you haven't read any yet, this would probably be a good one to read first.
TELLS IT LIKE IT IS.......2007-06-08
Revealing the NATURAL truth and exposing the farsical-comical-cult of christianity.....my take, god is in your mind, jesus is a joke, religion is a sham!
Terrific read.........2007-06-05
... but then, Mills is preaching to the choir. So to speak. Still, the book is chock full of interesting information, including some eye-openers: Who knew, for example, that Congress (our founding congress) voted unanimously to affirm that the "United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion"? (Treaty of Tripoli, 1797). Too bad this book won't be read by those who *ought* to read it.
Good atheism overview.......2007-06-05
An easier read than Smith's "Atheism, the case against God," yet still a thorough evisceration of fundamentalism and "Intelligent Design." The chapter "Interview with an Atheist" nicely summarizes the atheist viewpoint without pedantry, and the details are forthcoming in the later chapters. Nicely written with a personal touch.

One of the very best books I've read!.......2005-12-26
Many atheist books I enjoy reading, but this one has a special place in my heart! Not only was it written by Woolsey teller, one of the great atheist pioneers in Amerca, but it's sublime, poetic wording and clarity of argument make it one of my favorite books of all time. It is precisely the opposite of the intelligent design nonsense that we hear so much about from religious camps today and it refutes such notions by way of observations of our solar system and other facts of astronomy.
Though some of the astronomical observations in it are obsolete by today's standards, I was astounded at just how informative and accurate the book was. Teller is a truly gifted writer and his arguments should be heralded as remarkable vindications of the atheist position.
