Book Description
This is a guide to publication strategy in medicine. It covers the ethics, conventions and often unwritten rules of publishing in peer-reviewed journals and at conferences.
Doctors, scientists and drug companies need to publish their research; however many people who have published successfully admit that the process remains a mystery to them. Some journals reject over ninety percent of the articles submitted to them and may take more than six months to come to a decision. This completely up-to-date reference book gives advice on how to choose the right journal, how to avoid delays, authorship disputes and many other problems associated with publishing.
The A-Z format makes it relevant to readers with different levels of experience and different backgrounds. It meets the needs of students and professionals wishing to publish research, investigators in drug-company sponsored studies, and employees of drug companies and communications agencies required to develop publication strategies.

Customer Reviews:
Maybe for doctors, but not for full-time medical writers.......2006-08-20
Although physicians, researchers, nurses, and other health professionals do write, a great deal of what is considered "medical writing" is done by people who work in contract research organizations, communications companies, continuing medical education groups and advertising agencies. This book is probably not suited to the needs of full-time medical writers. Any A-Z book claiming to be useful for these writers must include the letter combinations "FDA", "ACCME" and PhARMa".
a dictionary-type guide for beginners.......2005-05-02
This little book isn't meant to be read from cover to cover as the author tells us himself in the preface. It is a very useful and extremely entertaining mini dictionary of medical writing. I work in the field of scientific communication teaching with non-English speakers and regularly dip in to this well of information. Who said that anything to do with scientific writing has to be boring? Worth a look.
