Book Description
The process of printmaking can be useful to art therapists in a wide range of settings: for example, the incremental process can be helpful in groupwork, and physically challenged clients can benefit from the physical aspects of printmaking. The author book explores these therapeutic advantages of printmaking. She also describes its roots outside art therapy. Relief printing, intaglio, planographic or surface processes, and stenciling are all covered in detail, with many ideas for incorporating them into art therapy sessions. The author gives a comprehensive and clear account of the impact that printmaking can have on clients' inner lives, using many examples drawn from her own practice.
The combination of technical information, clinical applications and practical instructions for using the printmaking processes will make this book a valuable tool for art therapists and occupational therapists.

Authenticating Jules Cheret Artwork and Posters.......2006-02-23
This is the authoritative source for all the artwork and posters of Jules Cheret, who perfected color lithography in the late 1800's. There are a number of color slides of original Jules Cheret posters plus excellent descriptive information to help one identify a suspected Jules Cheret poster. The catalog is by theme or advertiser without an index or table of contents to help one located the exact page where, let's say, Moulin-Rouge or Olympia might start. This does then force scanning to find the start of the catagory one might want - an inconvenience. In spite of this, once you discover the catagory area, the material is informative and precise enough to help with identification.

This classic story is a favorite with toddlers, who will cheer on the three clever billy goats who outsmart a mean troll. With plenty of repetition, this adventure is perfect for reading aloud and for joining in, and a satisfying ending provides a reassuring touch.
Customer Reviews:
Marcia Brown's 1957 "Billy Goats Gruff".......2007-07-01
PS - I agree: How lame that Amazon has mixed together reviews for all these different versions. They are all so different!
Anyway, this is a comment about Marcia Brown's 1957, which I found to be incredibly gory. Rather than merely knock the troll off the bridge, this billy goat gruff graphically dismembers him, poking out his eyes and reducing him to "bits, body and bones. Yuck! There are other, mellower version out there... This one's not my favorite. (ReadThatAgain!)
One of my boys' favorites!.......2007-01-15
Cute book with pictures that keep their attention. My boys walk around all the time saying "who is going over my bridge" in their gruff little troll voice! "Don't eat me... I too little," they say. I am so glad I added this book to our collection.
Billy Goats Gruff.......2006-08-05
Timely delivery. The book was great. My great grandson loved it.
Child's Favorite.......2005-10-10
My 21 month old son loves the story of the Billy Goats Gruff, at first we used to make up the story from what we remembered about it, but now with this book he can follow along and point at the troll hiding under the bridge. It gets may requests. The pictures are great and the story flows quickly enough to keep his interest. I like the ending. Snip Snap Snout, this reviews wrote out.
Which 3BBG version? This one--without question, hands down.......2005-05-23
Here's the one, parents and grandparents. Stephen Carpenter's son Tad had loved this story so much that Carpenter decided to write his own version--and am I glad he did! This is one of my four-year-old's daily requests, and my 13-year-old will still scoop it up for a chuckle from time to time. What makes this particular edition so great?
1. Big, fun illustrations. The goats are different sizes/colors. The troll is green, knobby, and hairy.
2. A troll who is just scary enough for a little menace (the littlest goat gruff appears once in his shadow) but is still kind of cute, and very comical when he takes that famous drink.
3. The cadence and style of the writing is just perfect for doing different voices for the troll and three goats, just like my mom used to do. The first time she tried it with this book, she remarked, "This is a really good version."
4. The encounter between the biggest billy goat and the troll is simply thrilling--this is one tough, unintimidated billy goat!
4. The last page is fantastic. The goats are grazing in a veritable Eden with smiles of satisfaction, and the troll is hilariously peeking out of the water down next to the bridge.
5. The old-fashioned ending--"snip snap snout, this tale's told out."
This family of seven could not love this book any more. I would not change a single line of the illustrations or a single syllable of the text. A beaut.

Book Description
Douglas Sirk (Claus Detler Sierck) was born in Hamburg, Germany, in 1900. He made nine films before fleeing Nazi Germany, eventually coming to America. His best-known films, made during the 1950s--all of them melodramas--were "Magnificent Obsession," "All That Heaven Allows," "The Tarnished Angels," "Written on the Wind," and "Imitation of Life" (made in 1958, released in 1959).
Because of the special stamp he put on his melodramas, Sirk's best works transcend the constraints of their genre. In them, he both exemplified and critiqued postwar, conservative, materialistic life and its false value systems. There is much in Sirk, particularly in "Imitation of Life," that is of interest to us today. The time seems to be right for a new look at the film, its reception amidst scandal over the affairs of its star--Lana Turner--the relationships between its mothers and daughters, the tensions between its men and its women, the friendships between its black and white women, and the ambiguous, controversial approach of Sirk to his material.
This volume includes the complete continuity script of the film, critical commentary and published reviews, interviews with the director, and a filmography and bibliography. It also includes an excellent introduction by Lucy Fischer.

for convenience!
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Book !.......2007-05-09
Well I think all the other reviews have said it, this book was a gem I loved both the Hero and the Heroine. Hope was a sweetheart you didnt get the impression she was a just a poor little rich girl whinning about not being loved you or rather I felt genuine sympathy for the way she was treated by her grandfather and other characters in the book...Enters Luciano big time alpha-male and sicilian to boot. He made me laugh alot because he believed in everything he was saying and doing even if it seemed archaic to Hope herself who although shy and laid back was no doormat when she was pushed to her limits. I loved that this book didn't start like so many Harlequin Presents with the main characters at odds with one another from the word go. You got to see their affection and then ultimately love for one another grow, shift and change through the progression of the story. Which in a lot of cases with these stories are the exact opposite where you have the characters going for eachothers throats at the word "go" and then the author has to tell this complete back story of how they once were lovers and are now mortal ememies and how they get back to be lovers once more. This story was a breath of fresh air. Kudos to Lucy Monroe!
Funny, Romantic, Enjoyable........2007-05-01
Funny, Romantic and Enjoyable. This is how I describe "The Sicilian's Marriage Arrangement". Hope Bishop was not your usual virginal heroine. She was strong and knew her own limitations. And although she had been secretly in love with Sicilian tycoon Luciano di Valerio since her teen years, she did not allow him to walk all over her.
In this book the hero, Luciano is taken down a peg or two when he expects Hope to just fall over in gratitude when he shows her attention and she doesn't. She is innocent, but as the saying goes, she "was not born yesterday.
Great Romantic Read.
Sweet and full of passion. Another Monroe great!.......2007-03-04
The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is to love and be loved in return.
~ From "Unforgettable with Love"Natalie Cole
A strong alpha, a young girl who for years loved this sexy Italian! Blackmailed into marriage! Secrets! Passion! How much better can it get? Again, another Lucy Monroe book I couldn't put down once I began. This is such a powerful and intense love story.
Hope Bishop had been raised without parents and by her wealthy grandfather who only had time for his business and business associates. For Hope, life was very lonely and as she matured and first set eyes on the sexy millionaire Luciano de Valerio she was smitten. For years she had loved this man from afar and when he turns up at a New Years Eve party and kisses her at midnight, she's sure of her love for this man.
Luciano iis not only handsome and wealthy, he's a successful businessman. He is very loyal to his family and family business so when Hope's grandfather approaches him with a deal, a deal to get his families business back by marrying his granddaughter, what choice does he have? Luciano thinks Hope is sweet, loving and tender and that she will make him a wonderful Sicilian wife but he doesn't count on the attraction between them. Lucy takes this attraction and makes it a dance, a dance and journey you won't want to miss.
I wonder how many women have had crushes or loved for years without that person realizing it?.. If you had the chance and someone could make it possible, what would be your choice?
Another great book by Lucy!.......2007-02-24
This is another great book by Lucy. I just loved Luc even though there were times that I wanted to "shake" him. Because I don't want to spoil the book for anyone, I will just say that my favorite part of this was that Luc realized that he loved Hope and wanted his marriage before he found out that she did not plot with her grandfather.
Anyone who loves HPs will definitely love this one!
Lucy Monroe Delivers.......2007-02-07
Lucy Monroe writes another sensual tale in the Sicilian's Marriage Arrangement.
Hope Bishop is a quiet, reserved young woman. She is floored when her crush of several years kisses her on New Year's Eve. But six months later Luciano di Valerio pops back into her life. He is pursuing her life no man has ever done before. Hope cannot believe a man such as Luciano is interested in her and she begins to fall head over heels in love.
Luciano di Valerio is a touch as nails Sicilian tycoon. When Joshua Reynolds Hope's grandfather backs him into a corner over a business deal, he feels he has no way out. He needs to get Hope to marry him in order to keep the family owned shipping business safe.
The sexual tension between Hope and Luciano burns up any time they are together. But both will have their love tested when Luciano's deal comes to light. Can these two overcome this obstacle?
The Sicilian's Marriage Arrangement is another keeper by Lucy Monroe. Her male characters like Luciano are strong alphas but have a tender side for those they love. Hope though young and inexperienced has a backbone that is perfect for dealing with Luciano.
This book is another feather in Lucy Monroe's great writing career.

Book Description
The coming-of-age story of one of Jamaica Kincaid's most admired creations--newly available in paperback
Lucy, a teenage girl from the West Indies, comes to North America to work as an au pair for Lewis and Mariah and their four children. Lewis and Mariah are a thrice-blessed couple--handsome, rich, and seemingly happy. Yet, alomst at once, Lucy begins to notice cracks in their beautiful facade. With mingled anger and compassion, Lucy scrutinizes the assumptions and verities of her employers' world and compares them with the vivid realities of her native place. Lucy has no illusions about her own past, but neither is she prepared to be deceived about where she presently is.
At the same time that Lucy is coming to terms with Lewis's and Mariah's lives, she is also unravelling the mysteries of her own sexuality. Gradually a new person unfolds: passionate, forthright, and disarmingly honest. In Lucy, Jamaica Kincaid has created a startling new character possessed with adamantine clearsightedness and ferocious integrity--a captivating heroine for our time.
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful and engaging........2007-03-08
Kincaid's writing style is deceptively simple. There is more to Lucy than the adolescent malcontent, and layers of meaning thrive beneath every lyrical line. The cyclical nature of the story resists typical linear development - there IS character growth and plot development. 'Lucy' will be a boring read if you're a lazy reader: look deeper.
Boring, Lame, Unstimulating.......2007-03-07
Lucy, by Jamiaca Kincaid, was one of the most boring books that I have ever been subjected to. It made me want to cry, and not from tears. Rather, it was from the boredom and wasting away of life that I experienced while reading. Lucy is a depressed and somber character that fails to find happiness, because she is not searching for it. Depressing. I know.
3 and a 1/2 stars.......2005-09-22
One thing you should know before picking up this book is that the main character, Lucy, is an extremely f**ked up kid who, overall, is wholly unlikeable. That being said however, the book does have its strong points. Lucy is a girl from the West Indies who comes to North America as an au pair. Her journey through the book not only shows us some of the prejudices she must endure, but more ironically shows the extremes of her own prejudices.
I found a lot of the book to be seemingly hopeless and exasperating, but it is also an eye opener in the realm of the subjugated. There is also something of a ray of hope at the book's finish.
Lastly, this book is very much manifested from some of the author's own experiences as a native of Antigua and it would really do a reader good to read Jamaica Kincaid's easily readable yet extremely angry essay, "On Seeing England for the First Time," before delving into this book.
"Lucy" is short and worth the time it takes to finish as I believe the story is more defined by what is furtively omitted (yet alluded to) than what is actually displayed in black and white.
Jamaica Kincaid is Amazing.......2005-08-29
After reading "Annie John," I was excited to read another book by Jamaica Kincaid for a class on Immigration. Jamaica Kincaid's style is soothing and simplisticly poetic. I loved reading "Lucy" for this same style I saw in "Annie John." Kincaid is amazing because she is not afraid to explore the taboo or the sexual nature of adolescence in the full glory of its complexity. Reading "Lucy" leaves the reader feeling empowered and somewhat lucid, while enticing them to remember the secrets of their own young experimentational development.
Yet another mindless book for the masses.......2004-07-26
I wanted to love Jamaica Kincaid -- I really did. I first picked up Lucy expecting to love it because I had heard such wonderful things about Kincaid.
What a pathetic disappointment.
The novel drones on with no purpose and little plot. The writing is on the level of a pre-teen novel. In fact, had I read this when I was 13, it would have been incredible. Unfortunately, I'm not 13 anymore.
The overarching flaw in Lucy is that the reader has absolutely no reason to care about the title character. She hates her new home -- for no reason. She hates her old home -- for no reason. She hates everyone she meets -- for no reason. At least once in every section she mentions how she either hates something or how something doesn't meet her approval -- however, we are never given a reason for her disdain or her high standards. In fact, we are given the opposite -- we are continually reminded of how ignorant Lucy is by her incessant complaining and idiotic comments.
The character is supposed to be powerful and honest and courageous. In reality she is self-absorbed, ignorant, and dull.
I really did want to like this book. Unfortunately, it's the kind of novel that will be praised by people who don't know any better -- who praise books simply because Oprah liked them.
If you've got nothing better to read when you go to the beach one day, it's fine -- just don't expect to be impressed or empowered by it. It's nothing more than a dimestore rag.
