Customer Reviews:
Wonderful Reference Book.......2006-02-24
This book is an excellent reference, with up to date research results pertaining to the area of early literacy, by authors who are specialists in their field. While many research books are difficult to read unless you have the technical background to understand typical research jargon, this book is easy reading, with fascinating topics for those in the field of early childhood education. The topics are current, with a focus on what the burning issues are today. I have to admit, this is one of the best research books I have purchased in a long time. I would highly recommend this book.

Book Description
For kindergartners and first graders who need extra work on their early literacy skills, this proven plan for teaching phonemic awareness and letter-sound correspondence is a teacher's best friend. Expert researchers created this developmentally sequenced, 11-week program in order to give students repeated opportunities to practice and enhance their beginning reading and spelling abilities. Each of the 44, 15 to 20 minute lessons features a "say-it-and-move-it" activity, a letter name and sound instruction exercise, and phonological awareness practice.
Perfect for small groups or individual instruction, this program is easy for teachers to use and understand because detailed scripted instructions and reproducible materials - such as picture cards, letter cards, and games - are provided. And teachers have the flexibility to shorten or extend the amount of time it takes for a student to complete the program. With this all-in-one resource, educators will have everything they need to get their students off to a great start in reading.

Perfect condition.......2007-06-11
The book cam quickly in the mail and was exactly as described. Thank you!
Great organized program.......2007-05-19
I am impressed by the organization of this phonological awareness program. I have just started using it with Kindergarten children who need more help developing PA. They love the game-like, quick exercises and are learning the difference between a sound and a letter name. I use a dolphin puppet for Fix-it which the children look forward to seeing every time we meet.

Road to the Code.......2006-03-01
I think this is a great program for teaching phonemic awareness. It has almost everything that you need. I would recommend it to anyone working with young children or those with special needs that are struggling with reading readiness.
outstanding.......2006-02-28
Rode to the Code gave me a great program on how to help my struggling students with phonemic awareness. Over time, these students began to understand the big picture of what reading is all about. We are matching letters and sounds and recognizing rhyming words and rhyming word parts. Thank you Rode to the Code!

From a 32 year veteran teacher........2006-08-30
This is a great book to use with prek students as well as kindergarten and first graders. The lesson plans are there to use as is or to be modified to fit the needs of your students.
Woderful!.......2006-03-08
I have found this book wonderful. It brings us tools to teach phonemic awareness to children that are struggling readers. It has a lot of activities they like and step by step are taking them to the beautiful world readers have.
This book is a must for every teacher!
No Regrets Here!! This is the BEST book EVER!!.......2003-01-18
I am a new teacher and I am trying to build up a library of resources. I bought this book hoping it would be helpful. I am so glad I purchased it. The activities are simple and concise, but they were developed with the children in mind. They will enrich your higher kids and strengthen your lower readers. Great for Kindergarten to intro basic phonics, super for first grade!! They will be fun to use in the classroom. The book is also FULL of information about phonics and linguistics. Do not hesitate purchasing this book.
A must have!!!.......2001-06-21
If you are teaching kindergarten through second grade, you must have this and use it in your classroom. It has activities that covers every area of phonemic awareness. It gives you many activities for each section so your children will never get bored with your lessons. Uses all modalities. I can't say enough good things about this book.
An excellent book for kindergarten teachers!.......1999-06-16
This book was recommended to me by my sister (also a k teacher), and I used these phonemic awareness activities during the last school year -- not only did the activities help my whole class overall, but they also helped me identify which kids were struggling and needed more help. And they were fun for the kids, too, which made teaching it so much easier. My school has been buzzing about phonemic awareness and phonological awareness for a couple of years now, but we haven't had a good way to actually teach it directly until we used these activities. I highly recommend this book!

Just A Little Pricey...But Excellent.......2006-09-28
Mayesky balances theory, standards, and practicality in her book by organizing it like a house. She builds up the discipline from the ground (what is creative arts in early childhood) to the unique, but unnecessary, touches (applying early childhood creative arts for holidays).
It's expensive, but worth the price. Vocational schools that offer early child development training use this text.
