Get out your number 2 pencils! Bruce Blitz, professional cartoonist, television personality, and all-around enthusiastic guy, is going to teach you how to draw! The Big Book of Cartooning is a fun, comprehensive, easy-to-use guide to the basic techniques of cartooning. In his Big Book, Blitz explains the process of drawing cartoons with detailed chapters that cover everything from the selection of paper and pencils to sketching animals and portraits. And don't worry if it doesn't turn out right the first time--Blitz's optimistic style and encouraging words will help smooth over the rough spots. In the forward, Bil Keane, syndicated cartoonist and creator of "The Family Circus," writes, "It is a brilliant compilation of the many basic aspects of drawing, simplified and presented in a breezy, entertaining style." Whether you're a budding young artist or an old dog still scratching out stick people, The Big Book of Cartooning can help you sketch more interesting and expressive pictures. Reading this book won't necessarily turn you into the next Gary Larson, but with a little guidance from Bruce Blitz and a lot of practice, you could be drawing better cartoons in no time! --George Laney

Great buy!.......2007-05-19
I bought this book for my husband and he loves it. He is constantly drawing little pictures for me. It will certainly bring out the inner artist in you. This book is easy to follow along with.
Very good.......2007-04-27
A casual glance through this book originally made me think it looked too cutesy and not what I wanted. I'll still say that too many of his characters and examples are cutesy, and rather stilted. But there's a lot of excellent material here. I found several tips that I (so far) haven't seen in several other books. I've had several nagging questions: Exactly how do I get things done? How is a finished cartoon created? On what size and kind of paper, using what tools? Blitz walks you through all of that stuff. The section on drawing backgrounds and perspective was also really handy.
I'd say this is the single best book I've seen to get started on cartooning. Even if you want to draw some other, very different style (like, some kind of dark Batman comic or something), if you have little or no cartooning experience, this book will be helpful.
A Great Book.......2007-04-16
I don't consider my self to possess any artistic abilities when it comes to drawing. I wanted to enter a contest on YouTube where I had to draw pictures of things. I got this book. Followed the easy to use instructions, drew my pictures, entered the contest and won the $5,000 grand prize. I would definitely say I got my money's worth from this book and much much more. Highly recommended.
Looks fun!.......2006-12-27
Bought this for my daughter (9) because her art teacher only wants to teach them abstract art and not let them get into any kind of drawing or painting. Well bump her! I'll teach my daughter some fun stuff at home, and I will have fun doing it with her! It's got a lot of detail on how to make cartoons and the book is quite large. Gives a lot of instruction on how to prep for doing this kind of artwork. I think the book is challenging but not intimidating for kids.
Lots of reference material.......2006-11-10
Mr. Blitz has drawn and written 320 pages of cartooning material. He covers the basics and adds a lot more too. Very useful for study, practice and reference. Highly recommended.

Buy the Big Box of Crayons.......2002-05-11
A sex toy for your inner child; grrrl power for grown-ups - whatever you want to call it, this coloring book rocks! Artist and illustrator Isabel Samaras has put the joyfully erotic sensibility of her paintings into an interactive format for the masses with Devil Babe, a clean-lined, well-coiffed, oh-so-wicked representation of the bad, bad girl inside us all (lucky us!). For women who love their bodies, love themselves, and men who love them for it.
It'll be with me forever.......2000-05-03
I liked it so much I tattooed one of the images on my right arm!
No kidding.
It's a fine, fine coloring book, too...
Naughty and nice!.......2000-03-29
If you miss reaching for the crayons and spending hours with a good coloring book, than this book is for you (that is, if you're an adult). Samaras's tongue-in-cheek take-off (literally, there are many topless devil girls in this book) on children's activity books is a riot - lots of hot'n'spicy recipes, mazes, even fetish paperdolls. It's really funny, but never goes so far as to be offensive, raunchy, or pornographic, and appeals to women and men. Samaras can really draw up a storm: she's obviously influenced by Catwoman from the old Batman series, Betty Page, and all of the other fabulous babes of the 20th century. We put this book on the coffeetable with a box of crayons and everyone finds it irresistable... Very unique and lots of fun!

This is a wonderful drawing book for Christian art students........1999-08-03
The Big Book of Cartooning provides Christian art students with good instruction in drawing while showing them that we can, in a natural way, incorporate God into everything we do. The techniques are easy to follow, and the examples are plentiful. Mr. Lockman did an excellent job for his intended audience.
Religious content mars book.......1998-06-11
I bought this book expecting a how-to on cartooning. It is that, but the author has chosen to sprinkle Christian religious comments liberally throughout the book, which ruined it for me. For example, he refers to "your God-given talent." That's not nearly the worst, either.
If I had wanted a religious tract, I would have purchased one.
